Meet Natalia Colman

What attracted you to the world of fashion?

My mother. She studied fashion design, made all our clothes, customised everything and spent 25 years working in fashion retail so I’ve been immersed in it from the word go!

What’s your best Fashion experience?

Training store managers at Jaeger about body shapes, it meant I got to see the collections before anyone other than the buyers. Also going to their fashion shows at the London College of Fashion.

What do you love about fashion?

Just how a piece of clothing or an accessory can transform the way someone looks and feels. Seeing colour and stylish clothes makes us happy, whether we’re wearing them or looking at someone else.

If you could design for a celebrity who would it be and why?

Sarah Beeny because she’s an attractive woman who is very good at what she does but very real at the same time. She’s got a bigger top half and I bet she struggles with how to balance that out. I love to help people overcome their body shape challenges.

What is your current favourite fashion item?

Now that autumn is here it’s got to be my collection of wool berets. I have one in every colour to match my coats.

Come on, admit it…which fashion item did you once love, but now

look back in horror at?

When I was much younger I had an awful habit of wearing my boyfriend’s shirts and sweaters. They were far too big on me and looked really bad.

Which area of fashion are you most interested in?

It’s got to be accessories. For me they are the cornerstone of anyone’s wardrobe and they add individuality and interest. Plus, you can put on weight and they still fit.

Who are your favourite or favourite designers?

Valentino and Channel.

What would be your perfect Christmas fashion gift?

A pair of really special black boots.

If you could bring one fashion trend back what would it be?

For men – three piece suits & very formal dress for work

For women – gloves & hats like we wore in the 1950s & 60s they look so chic!

What attracted you to the world of fashion?

I have always loved fashion, even as a little girl I would look at all the pretty ladies in their beautiful clothes. I wanted to dress like them and have clip cloppy shoes like them. I would insist on wearing a new outfit if we went out anywhere, much to mums annoyance. I am a people watcher, I have a habit of looking at people just to see what they are wearing.

What’s your best Fashion experience?

I love to write my blog, it has really opened up the fashion world to me, I have been really lucky to meet people I would have never met otherwise and take part in projects I would never have thought possible.

What do you love about fashion?

I love how fashion can make you feel good about yourself. I love to dress up.

  1. If you could design for a celebrity who would it be and why?

Cheryl Cole, such a likeable person, very stylish and eager to try out new looks. Or Katie Price, she could do with a new stylist…

What is your current favourite fashion item?

My vintage satchel, it is dark tan and has no straps, so I have to carry it everywhere (will at some point get round to using belts or scarves for straps)

Come on, admit it…which fashion item did you once love, but now look back in horror at?

Pretty much all my wardrobe before 2003! Bootleg jeans-not bottom or petite friendly… oh and the pointed ankle boots I used to wear with them…oh the horror!!!

Which area of fashion are you most interested in?

Fashion journalism, I love to write and fashion is my favourite subject!

Who are your favourite or favourite designers?

ADAM, Acne, Mulberry and Celine.

What would be your perfect Christmas fashion gift?

A vintage Chanel handbag, the Mulberry Alexa or Neely. Or a Hermes scarf. Thank you Santa.

If you could bring one fashion trend back what would it be?

The glamour of the 1940s, I wish the whole world made as much effort as they did back then, all the gentlemen in suits, the ladies in hats, gloves, pretty dresses. I love seeing elderly gentlemen dressed in their Sunday best, makes me all teary…

Meet Venessa Vernon

What attracted you to the world of fashion?

I’ve always been interested in creating things. Art and textiles were my favourite subjects whilst at school and these were the subjects that I got good grades in.

My interest for fashion developed over the years. When I was doing my GCSE’s, we had the opportunity to do a 2 week work placement and I wanted to learned as much about the fashion industry. So I went to the British Clothing Label saltwater in London and worked as an admin assistant.

What do you love about fashion?

Fashion influences us all and its ability to speak out on anything and everything.

If you could design for a celebrity who would it be and why?

I like to style Oprah Winfrey as she is great role model and is also very giving to the community.

What is your current favourite fashion item?

It would have to be my maxi dresses, I have about five of them.

Come on, admit it…which fashion item did you once love, but now look back in horror at?

The t-shirt with the hands print on the chest area. At the time everyone was wearing them…I thought I was cool!

Which area of fashion are you most interested in?

I’m really interested in bridal, evening, street and childrenswear.

Who are your favourite or favourite designers?

I like a lot of designers for different reasons, some due to their creative style and some is just because they are doing what they love and who they are as an individual. I also like finding out about established and emerging designers from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

My list includes Betty Johnson, Coco Chanel, and Kosibah to name a few.

What would be your perfect Christmas fashion gift?

An industrial steamer, its looks like a hoover and it irons your clothes in no time!!

If you could bring one fashion trend back what would it be?

I don’t think there is any that I would like to bring back. As most fashion trends return at some point, maybe just in different colour fabric or shape.
