“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Miranda Priestley’s famed catty retort from The Devil Wears Prada may live on in infamy, but its been proven false time and time again.
Fashion’s ongoing love affair with floral prints continues for 2013 with a myriad of designers offering up their take on the iconic pattern.
Dandelions bloom at Valentino; Dries Van Noten and Rochas picked chrysanthemums, while Bottega Veneta scattered silk marguerite daisies on a V-neck dress.
This season’s ‘modern floral’ is above all chic and strong, with prints giving covered up looks a romantic fairy-tale spin.
Taking inspiration from this, here at Fashion Pony we’ve chosen our 3 avourite hot house floral pieces to bring a touch of flower power to your wardrobe…
Modern Floral Pick No.1
Blue Floral Dress, £55 by our newest resident designer label, Dazarockz. Piling accessories onto these striking florals is like stuffing an arrangement of peonies with baby’s breath and ferns; the prints are edgy, so stay away from anything too pretty accessory-wise — we have styled this dress with some tough multi-chain metal epaulets.
Modern Floral Pick No.2
Pink Rose Skirt, £35. Shown here with our matching Detachable Rose Peter Pan Collar, £12 – it’s an oh-so-simple way to add a touch of floral to your outfit! Just wear over a plain white tee – as we have here – for a blooming beautiful look. The outfit is finished to perfection with some gorgeous shoes from Daniel Footwear.
Modern Floral Pick No.3
Blue Toile Dress, £55. Fantastically versatile, this cute floral dress features the very ‘IT’ Toile print that is all over the catwalks at the moment. Dress it up with a cream fascinator from Milliflorae, colour-pop red clutch and a pair of statement red heels – such as this striking pair, again courtesy of Daniel Footwear - and it’s perfect for weddings, christenings and garden parties. Throw on some flats and an over the shoulder satchel and it’s your chic lazy Sunday outfit sorted!
Florals are all about having fun with fashion and embracing the joy and romance of spring. Perhaps this is why the floral trend is one that just won’t go away!
